Fire in the Sky

No, it's not missiles, or aliens that are coming to adjunct us and it's November not July, but it must certainly is FIREWORKS!

Last night on the island was the official Kick Off street party and fireworks to land the 2009 Pirates Week festival, so we head to town and with my Nikon camera and the tripod tried my first ever fireworks shooting, unfortunately we were kind of close to the action so I was not able to catch any ocean scenes but I've decided to got to a different spot for the closing (next weekend) and hopefully I would get better results.

Here are the best results in a collage I've created...

Today is the Landing, which is a recreating of when the pirates came to the island, took the governor and over the place. So people dress as pirates come on a pirate ship and do the whole thing in town, should be fun plus I have a fabulous outfit, more pictures to come!

Have a great weekend!

Is it Friday yet?

Yes it is... but it's also Friday the 13th. Now, the real question is, do you consider this day to be lucky or unlucky?

To me either, I believe you are the only one that makes your own luck, it has nothing to do with the date, the time or the place where you are...

But to many Friday the 13th really is consider unlucky, so I decided to do some research online and this is what I found; The origin of the link between bad luck and Friday the 13th is unclear. Some say that the whole thing might date to Biblical times (the 13th guest at the Last Supper betrayed Jesus). By the Middle Ages, both Friday and 13 were considered bearers of bad fortune and that superstition carried until now modern times.

Here are five Friday-the-13th facts:

1. Fear of Friday the 13th – one of the most popular myths in science - is called paraskavedekatriaphobia as well as friggatriskaidekaphobia. Triskaidekaphobia is fear of the number 13.

2. Many hospitals have no room 13, while some tall buildings skip the 13th floor and some airline terminals omit Gate 13.

3. President Franklin D. Roosevelt would not travel on the 13th day of any month and would never host 13 guests at a meal. Napoleon and President Herbert Hoover were also triskaidekaphobic, with an abnormal fear of the number 13.

4. Mark Twain once was the 13th guest at a dinner party. A friend warned him not to go. “It was bad luck,” Twain later told the friend. “They only had food for 12.” Superstitious diners in Paris can hire a quatorzieme, or professional 14th guest.

5. The number 13 suffers from its position after 12, according to numerologists who consider the latter to be a complete number – 12 months in a year, 12 signs of the zodiac, 12 gods of Olympus, 12 labors of Hercules, 12 tribes of Israel, 12 apostles of Jesus, 12 days of Christmas and 12 eggs in a dozen.

It's honestly kind of silly to think people have had this crazy superstitions for so long, but I guess once you believe in something is has to make a difference in once life.

To me today is lucky, since I get pay every 15th & 30th of the month, and since this week the 15th is Sunday, I got paid today, Yey lucky me! LOL

So to everybody out there, enjoy your 13 which ever way you'll like, if it's good luck enjoy it, and if in fact brings you not so good times, try to make the best out of it!

Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Next Blog...

If you are reading this is either because you have a blog yourself and it's linked to mine of just because you were browsing blogs and ended up in mine.

Well, about the part of browsing blogs is what I'm talking about. What's up with blogger sometimes? Whenever I try using that "next blog" button I have come to found out that this is an extremely temperamental and with "a mind of his own" option.

At times I click on it and it only gives me blogs in either Portuguese, Italian and other languages that I don't even know... Then it tends to give me blogs that do not contain the famous "next blog" button so I am forced to click back and then click the previous choice again (which means is the end of my attempt to keep browsing).

Now yesterday was a completely different experience for me, from the first time I click on that "next blog" button I started getting only blogs related to dogs (pugs, German shepherds, corgis, best behave dogs from NY, even blogs that are supposed to be written by dogs) and the occasional cat... what' up with dat?Boy I tell you, my dogs are pretty intelligent and kind of well trained (at times) but one thing is fo'sore, they are far from starting their own blog, LOL! Their case is more like this:

Now I wonder what is waiting for me next on the matter of the "next blog"? We shall see... Looking forward to it!!!

Making a list, checking it twice...

My whole life I've always being a fan of many lists. I think is a great way to organize things in paper and then keep it handy in you brain once you realize the amount of things something involves.

There are many types of lists like: grocery list, guest list, school supplies list, gift list, New Year resolutions lists, and many more. Of course I can't forget to mention one of the most important one to me, the Wish list.

Lately I've been thinking about many things I want to do for the house and things to buy for us and I'm convince that if I have a clear imagine in my brain of what I want/need, it would be easier to use visualization and the law of attraction (yes, the whole "Secret" deal) to get the things you want.

I know some of the things I have on this list are short term and others longer term, but working on my mind and visualizing what I want to get me to my goal when the right time comes.

So here are some of the things I am going to put on that list right now;

1. Upgrade my car

2. Get more palm trees for our yard

3. Stainless Steel Grill

4. Taking a trip to Italy with my husband

How about you out there reading this? Any wish lists coming up, specially since Christmas is just around the corner? Hope so...

Have a great day!

Serenity Now...

Today is another holiday on the island (Remembrance Day), after the horribly weather we had all weekend now it's a perfect sunny Caribbean day and I'M WORKING!

Our store seems to be the only one store open in the whole downtown area and although being here today is not the part that bothers me, what bothers me is that if my boss was the one opening and working today he would have turn around and walked away... To me that is a "double standard" policy, if something applies to one person it should apply to others, but it doesn't, go figure!

The store I work for is one of the best stores in town and our sales are very good compare to many, so what's the point to open for a few hours to try to make some sales (maybe sell $150.00 all day) when they are spending more money by paying two staff members to be here (at double time rate cause it's a holiday) and pay electricity all day, so just with those two spends already it's not worth having the place running, at least from my point of view.

So all I can say and ask for is "Serenity Now or Insanity later"..... LOL!
Happy Monday :)

Rainday and not Sunday...

It's still raining and very cloudy all day since I woke up around 9:30 for the first time in a long time...

On the positive side of it all, since there's not much to do and my husband is working 1/2 day, it gave me a chance to jump back into my exercise routine, so thanks Ida for giving me weekend weather that makes want to exercise, LOL!!!
