Save the Whales!

I received this article by email a few days ago, I found it to be very inspiring and kind of true, once again it shows the misconception some people have about what real beauty is.

To me it's all about thinking of our bodies as temples of our soul and not as temples of beauty. Plus beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the most important things in life can't be seen or touched, so that says it all, right????

Recently, in a French city, a poster featuring a young, thin and tan woman appeared in the window of a gym. It said:
THIS SUMMER DO YOU WANT TO BE A MERMAID OR A WHALE? A middle aged woman, whose physical characteristics did not match those of the woman on the poster, responded publicly to the question posed by the gym.

To Whom It May Concern:Whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, sea lions, curious humans). They have an active sex life, they get pregnant and have adorable baby whales. They have a wonderful time with dolphins stuffing themselves with shrimp. They play and swim in the seas, seeing wonderful places like Patagonia, the Bering Sea and the coral reefs of Polynesia.

Whales are wonderful singers and have even recorded CDs. They are incredible creatures and virtually have no predators other than humans. They are loved, protected and admired by almost everyone in the world.

Mermaids don't exist. If they did exist, they would be lining up outside the offices of psychoanalysts due to identity crisis. Fish or human?

They don't have a sex life because they kill men who get close to them, not to mention how could they have sex? Therefore they do not have kids either.

Plus, who wants to get close to a girl who's skin is all scaly and smells like a fish store? The choice is perfectly clear to me...
I want to be a whale!!!

P.S. We are in an age when media puts into our heads the idea that only skinny people are beautiful, but I prefer to enjoy an ice cream with my grandkids, a good dinner with a man who makes me shiver and a latte with my friends. With time, we gain weight because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room, it distributes out to the rest of our bodies. So we aren't heavy, we are enormously cultured, educated and happy. Beginning today, when I look at my butt in the mirror I will think, "Good gosh, look how smart I am"!

 Have a wonderful day!!!

Precious seconds

This morning while driving into work on one of the main roads on the island (West Bay Road), the 3rd car in front of me started to break as if they were ready to turn, but to my amazement instead of stopping to take a turn, the driver stopped to give right of to way a momma chicken with 6 little chicks.

Thanks to this driver, the group managed to cross a two way road and make it safe to the other side making those seconds we waited for them to cross just precious.

I was such a delight to be able to witness that there's still kindness towards animals in this busy lives we live and specially to witness such a wonderful event in a place like West Bay Road, many times when I drive on this road I see a lot of death animals (specially chickens and iguanas), and that makes me very sad.

So today I am happy to say that it was a great beginning of my day and to that driver that gave the right of way, thanks for caring and showing that some of us are capable of amazing kindness towards all creatures!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!!!

Update galore

Like I mentioned yesterday, April is already here so this marks the beginning of month #4 for 2010.

So, let's recap shall we? On January 1st of this year, I posted about my new year resolutions, in case you didn't read that particular post or you were not familiar with my blog, here's a little reminder of what I had in mind at the time:

1. Keeping my #1 resolution of last year and be thankful for it too! (Resolution was to be thankful!)
2. Continue exercising at least 3 times a week.
3. Be more patient.
4. Surround myself with positive, good energy people!
5. I still want to volunteer for something- I already have something in mind.
6. Be more creative and get back to basics with my art.
7. Go to the beach with my husband at least one night a week.
8. Read a new book every month.
9. Take a vacation away from the island.
10. Keep at least one resolution during the whole year.

And so far here's the update on how I'm doing:

1. I am in fact good at being thankful, I've come to realize that whenever I am thankful for a simple task or even a very hard ones (those that seem impossible at times), once I realized that I can be thankful for it, it complete changes my view and approach towards it. I am giving me a 9 out of 10 on this one.
2. I have to admit that with my arm situation and all I've been very lazy lately, even put on a few pounds, but as of this week (actually Sat). I am back on the exercise wagon. 6 out 10 because it's too early to call it a victory.
3. Patience, oh my dear patience, where are you in times of need??? I guess I am doing o.k. but in this arena there's always room for improvement (specially with annoying customers, LOL!). 8 out of 10.
4. This one is a hard cause there are many vampires out there to get you and suck out your positive energy, but still since the management at work changed, I believe this helped me achieve this task easier, still got to work on it daily, cause u just never know who you gonna run into, right? 8 out of 10.
5. I am seriously trying to volunteer but it's been so difficult, lost of paper work, police clearance, etc. I have a charity in mind and I'm sticking to it, I hope to be successful before the end of the year. 5 out of 10 cause I feel I'm not doing much progress on it.
6. I am trying to be more creative, I've painted a few little canvases and did some stuff to add to my moms pile of gifts. 7 out of 10.
7. So far we've been to the beach more than usual, but when we used to live at the apartment we would go EVERY weekend and sometimes even both days of the weekend. 5 out of 10 because a must improvement is needed.
8. Read a new book every month. Well, I am proud to announce that I started my 4th book this past weekend, everything I've read so far is very particular and I can't wait to add more books to my list, any suggestions??? 10 of 10 (so far!).
9. Vacation time is coming (well at least on my mind it is, and that's the first place to begin at). My husbands birthday is in July so we want to go to Mexico and visit the Yucatan where I lived for 3 yrs, it's a beautiful area, I still have lots of friends there and besides going back to see such a special place I am looking forward to share it with the most special person in my life, can't wait. 9 out of 10 cause it's still just a plan.
10. Well, I guess I'm right on track about keeping at least 1 resolution during the whole year, so far. (See #8). I'm giving me a 10 out of 10.

So that's it, my resolutions update. I feel pretty good about a few and not so good about others, but like I mentioned before, there's always room for improvement and we are only in month #4 out of 12 so I have a good way to go, otherwise there's always next year!

Greetings April...

It's hard to believe you are here already, it feels like it was just yesterday when we celebrated Christmas and then when I turned 33, but oh well, dunno if it's days are moving faster or my memory is getting shorter!

This past weekend was very nice, it was a 3 day weekend, haven't had one of those in a very, very long time, can't even remember when was the last time.

Like I mentioned before, my friend from high school Maria Fernanda and her boyfriend (with his family) were here visiting for a week, they left Saturday afternoon but not without having our last lunch together, I hope it's not going to be another 15 years until I see her again.

Sunday we took the dogs to the beach and they had a great time. It's funny how different they behave at the beach, Ditto is a total Beach Bum, he has it down to a science, it's like he has a PHD in "chillaxing" at the beach, we lived about 2 blocks from the beach before and he used to go more than once a week, so I guess we can call him a "beach expert"!

Sheba on the other hand, takes a while to get relaxed and when she sees any of us going into the sea, she gets really worked out and even cries a little... After a while there, she was able to just "chill".

After we came back home, we gave both dogs a bath (like we always do after they've been on the sea), the afternoon was beautiful and specially on our back deck; flowers are blooming, birds are bathing and it's the end of another wonderful weekend!

 Have a wonderful week!
