The other day I got a very interesting email about the reason why we wear our engagement and then our wedding band on the fourth finger, I don't know if this is a fact but I found it kind of cute they way they approached it.
So, according to this email there is a Chinese legend that explains it in a very nice and convincing way;
The thumbs represent your parents.
The grooming fingers represent your brothers/sisters and friends.
The middle fingers represent yourself.
The ring (fourth) finger represent your partner/better half.
The little finger represents your kids.
Now to explain this legend you have to do this:
So now, try to separate your thumbs (your parents), although they gave you life they are probably not going to be with you your entire life.
Then try to separate the grooming fingers (brothers/sisters and friends), this is possible also because although you might have them around for a long time, they will also go their separate ways and some you might not see ever again...
After that, try to separate your little fingers, again that is possible because kids come into your life and then eventually will have a life of their own and leave.
Finally, try to separate your ring fingers and you'll be surprised with the result... it's not possible! This is because those fingers represent your other half, the person that once you find it would be there with you all the way, pretty cool, uh?
Well just though I share that nice cute legend.
Oh by the way, here's also a picture of "my precious" diamond engagement ring, beautiful right? I love it...
Have a great day!

Gorgeous ring!! And I just sat here for like 5 minutes trying to separate my fingers. I will make everyone do it when they are drunk. LOL
Had to go look it up. I like your explanation better.
Wearing your wedding ring on your left ring finger stems from an old belief that it contained a vein that connected to the heart, an edict that England's King Edward VI made official during the 16th century. But there are people today who choose to wear it on their right hand.
Very cool explanation!! And, for the record, I spent several minutes trying to seperate my ring fingers...people at work were staring... ;)
Nice one! ... and what a fab rock!!
Love the rock!!
Too damn funny! I tried doing the hand thingie!
Intresting! Apparently, a long time ago it was believed that the vein running from your left "ring" finger went straight to the heart and that's why that became the ring finger.
