calling all parents

Having children is definitely not in my agenda, not for a long time (perhaps since I can remember).

Now that I work at an art gallery were items range from the 100's to the 1000's of dollar$$$, the little desire left on me, decreases every time people show up with some spoiled, rude or plain naughty little ones.

But then it's worst when those little ones are not only naughty but also completely very unattended by their parents or guardians. That's when I lose faith in parenthood and I believe that not all people are cut up to be parents.

NEW sign I want at the gallery
Because having sex is the easy part, perhaps too easy nowadays. And for the purpose of procreation it only takes two (male and female for that specific purpose).

But then it takes more than just being female to be a mother and male to be a father, it takes; commitment, responsibility, dedication, unselfishness, communication, respect for thyself and your offspring and of course lots and lots of LOVE!!!

And this is the part that a lot of people need to focus once they are on that boat...

In my case, I am not on that boat, so I see no reason why it should be the one paying attention to other children (unless asked for or they are my responsibility), so people MIND YOUR OWN CHILDREN!

This little detail would make my days easier and much more enjoyable...

The sign above is what I would like to put in the gallery nowadays, although I would change the kitten part (cause I love kitties and I don't want them to be abused) and give away baby iguanas!!!

Isn't it a great idea?!?!?!? LOL

Have a great Tuesday!!!

As a parent and now a Grandparent, I'm here to tell you it's a hard, hard job, and it takes MUCH more than "just a male and female."

Wonderful (and overdue imo) post!

I love that sign, I've seen similar ones in coffee shops and I think it's so good :)

I think there is so much focus on pleasing kids these days and not as much on discipline. I can't remember *ever* talking back to my parents when I was little, or really disobeying them by sneaking out or something, and yet kids these days throw tantrums in the worst places and their parents don't care how they act. I can tell you for sure that whenever I have kids, mine will NOT be running around like crazy!!

AMEN!!! - people should honestly take a certificate to prove their ability to be parents before having children - there's so much irresponsibility in this world when it comes to parenthood. I can imagine your utter frustration in a gallery! And yes, please change the word kitten with baby iguanas! - otherwise cute sign :)

I also am THRILLED that you said you would change the name "kittens" to iguana...you had me worried for a second!

I do agree with you though, people need to mind their children!

I've known since I was 10 that I can never have children physically. And after teaching preschool for a few years, and seeing how much children have changed since I grew up, and the lack of parenting by some people, just that along doesn't want me to have kids as well! And that sign is hilarious! I've seen it in a vet's office, too! hahaha!

I totally agree with the fact that parents need to mind their children and what they do in a public place. It must be frustrating to have to look after what they are doing in order for such expensive art not to be damaged. Personally I would never bring smaller children to an art gallery unless I watched their behavour. But - when that is said - I tell you, it is ALWAYS easy to be clever about something one has actually never experienced; Before I had children I had so many ideas for their upbringing and how I would behave and not behave. But it is SO different when one actually has the responsability 24 hours a day, whether one is ill or stressed or the child is ill or having troubles in whatever way. I have come to see that we live in such different times and it would be great if somehow parents could have some tools to help them be better at their job. But saying that sex is the easy part, is quite a judgement to put upon parenthood. At least in my part of the world, most children are wanted and "planned", but that doesn´t make the job of parenting easier in itself. Also remember that children are not only affected by their parents but by the surroundings, atmospheres, genetics, friends, culture etc. Would it be an idea to a sign saying that children under a certain age are not welcome unless taken care of, or perhaps put a table with paper, crayons or lego blocks in a corner or a backroom of the gallery?
