Funny Friday

Today is a holiday here on the island and while lots of people are sleeping in, out and about, doing some sports, diving, going to the beach or simply just at home relaxing, I HAVE TO WORK!

Still work should be interesting today as we are conducting interviews (about 6 people) for a sales associates position we have available at the retail area of the Gallery & Shoppe I work at, this should be fun, specially cause we received over 35 applications and these are pretty much the only ones we consider might work...

I picture today's interviews going like this;

LOL, just kidding... hope it goes much better that that! Have a fun weekend :)

Engaging legend...

All my life I never really was much into jewelry or even diamonds, that is of course 'til I got engaged, now I love diamonds and wouldn't mind having some more, lol!

The other day I got a very interesting email about the reason why we wear our engagement and then our wedding band on the fourth finger, I don't know if this is a fact but I found it kind of cute they way they approached it.

So, according to this email there is a Chinese legend that explains it in a very nice and convincing way;

The thumbs represent your parents.
The grooming fingers represent your brothers/sisters and friends.
The middle fingers represent yourself.
The ring (fourth) finger represent your partner/better half.
The little finger represents your kids.

Now to explain this legend you have to do this:

So now, try to separate your thumbs (your parents), although they gave you life they are probably not going to be with you your entire life.

Then try to separate the grooming fingers (brothers/sisters and friends), this is possible also because although you might have them around for a long time, they will also go their separate ways and some you might not see ever again...

After that, try to separate your little fingers, again that is possible because kids come into your life and then eventually will have a life of their own and leave.

Finally, try to separate your ring fingers and you'll be surprised with the result... it's not possible! This is because those fingers represent your other half, the person that once you find it would be there with you all the way, pretty cool, uh?

Well just though I share that nice cute legend.

Oh by the way, here's also a picture of "my precious" diamond engagement ring, beautiful right? I love it...

Have a great day!

Back to reality

Yes, I made it back home but to a very rainy Caribbean after some gorgeous and very hot steamy weather in Florida...

My trip was good but extremely tired, to me it was the combination of; a lot of work, lots of time on my feet, not taking my vitamins, not exercising for the past 3 weeks (as I had a major cold 2 weeks before I left) and also the pillow I was using at the hotel was taking a huge toll on me and my neck and shoulders have been very sore.

But now I'm back home, I have plan to restart my exercise routine again tomorrow, today is back to my regular diet, sleeping in my own bed and also getting an appointment with my chiropractor to help out the process of the neck and shoulders being so sore...

Also after today my work schedule changes, so from now on I will be working from 9:30 to 6pm, it's going to be though to finish so late, but oh well, I have to be very grateful cause I have a great job and with that comes great responsibility... LOL!

So now, off to work and as we are now slowly getting back to high season= lots of sales (I hope!).

Busiest Week

My blog title today pretty much covers it all, this have been my busiest week in quite some time, I guess it's right up there with the week of my marriage, but still even more tired than that time because right now I'm pretty much on my feet all day long, during my weeding week lost of the time it was all fun and good times.

Anyway, I really can't complain, the Fort Lauderdale Boat show is going good and sales are getting better every day, on the second day (Friday) I even sold an original painting (the first one sold at this years show), so I'm very happy cause that's pretty much what I came to do...

Now, the Boat Show has being a wonderful experience in all, working such a huge event and meeting a lot of people that would be great connections for work is excellent, but also seeing what the whole fishing industry is all about as well.

On Thursday afternoon as it was the first day of the show and it wasn't very busy, me and my husband went for a walk around part of the show (and I say part cause it's so big it's impossible to see it in one afternoon)... First walk inside some of the tents that sell fishing products, dock lighting, fishing apparel and more. But then we walk outside where the fun stuff starts, meaning the boat, sailboats and finally the MEGA yachts.

All I can say about the mega yachts is WOW!!! We saw some the biggest most luxurious yachts that are for sale, some of the standard (used) ones are about 160' feet, with at least 3 main rooms + crew, they come with a little boat to get to land and the nicest one we saw call "Mine Games" comes with its very own submarine for two and a helicopter that seats 4 people, how about that, most prices start at 5 million usd.

Yeah, pretty amazing, and that's just the used part of the show, then you can visit a tent that have all of the manufactures that offer the custom made mega yachts that offer to make you own yacht, your own way, I don't even bother wondering what kind of a price those have... But it's all relative you know, what could be very expensive for me could be very cheap for you, well, most of those boat I saw were sadly very expensive for me, LOL!

Anyway, here are some highlights of the show, enjoy....

my favorite one, Mine Games!

Reporting from Florida

Things are good, being busy as hell, but 2 out of the 3 big events went very well.

Monday evening we had a dinner for the my boss's induction to the International Gamefish Assoc. Hall of Fame, he was inducted among other 4 men, including a fellow Costarican, so I was there cheering for both of them. Took pictures but will post them later, promise.

Tuesday evening was the Fundraising Dinner for the GH Ocean Foundation, that was the pirate theme party one, we had a great time and there was even a Capt. Sparrow (Johnny Depp) look a like.... it was so much fun, pictures also coming soon.

And finally today was the first day of the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, that was fun as well but very exhausting... Anyway, just wanted to touch base with my blog, now off to bed.

Weekend love story...

Well Monday is here in I have to admit it was a pretty good weekend.

Like I said yesterday, we went to the beach and manage to enjoy a few hours of sun and sea before the rain came back... Here's a little idea of what our Sunday at the beach was like...

we were at the beach

enjoying the sunny day

admiring the clearness of the water

then came a needle fish to check me out...

and that's when I realized the sea loves me... and I love it back!

but also, I love this man...

and lucky me, he loves me back....

Happy Monday!!!

Weekend review

Saturday was one of the best weather days we've had in the month of October, I had to work from 9am to 3pm but it was good, got a lot done and changed a few wall displays, I think my boss is going to be pleased with what I came up with, we shall see...

After work I managed to get everything else I need for the Florida trip (which by the way is tomorrow am) so I got both my two outfits for the two events including my pirate theme outfit... Oh yeah, I forgot to mention about that. Like I said on my past post about my October events, turns out the company decided to make the GH Ocean Foundation Dinner a Pirate Theme event, so that dress I posted a picture of here, is going to become a pirate dress (but a fancy one, of course!), got my high boots, my big gold earring hoops and all... I'm going to look fabulous!!!

Anyway, back to my weekend... So after working Saturday and missing the opportunity to go to the beach and enjoy a nice sunny day, we got up today, got some breakfast and around 10 we left to the beach, laid down, did some snorkeling and a few hours later it was raining again, then it rained pretty much the rest of the afternoon and night.

Now it's off to bed, working tomorrow and then off the Florida for a few day... Have a great weekend!!!

Go figure!

Today it's Saturday and I have to work from 9am to 3pm and of course we have the best weather we've had in the past few days...

Well, I guess Murphy was right when he named that law after him, because I would say it's one of the most accurate and repetitive ones, LOL!

Have a great day!

I + rainbows

I'm so happy it's Friday although I am going away next Tuesday for a week I am working tomorrow so my boss can have a full weekend off before I am gone...

Yesterday morning it was raining pretty hard but with sun, so I after a while there was a huge beautiful rainbow in the back of my house, took some shots and although they didn't come out so great I am going to share them with you all...

I don't know why but something tells me that my blog is slowly but surely becoming a photo blog... Oh well, I really don't think there are any complains about that, and if they are, please just submit them by writing to the following address:

PO BOX 148 Hell
Grand Cayman KY1-1401
Cayman Islands

Yes, that is in fact my real postal address... so if you have anything else besides complains and specially gifts, please feel free to send some soon... keep in mind the holidays are coming soon as well, LOL!

O.k. so now back to the rainbow

Happy Friday!!!

Cool Camera Mode

I have a Canon PowerShot, actually this is the 3rd of those that I've owned. My first one I gave to my dad, the second got flooded diving and now I have this one.

The last two cameras have this really cool mode that is called Color Accent, basically what this mode does is that you can choose one color that you want to focus on and this is the only color the camera will display, the rest will show in black and white...

I love taking pictures in this mode, it's so much fun, here are some I've taken lately with it...

Little Cayman Airport Terminal (light turquoise focus)

Bouganvillea in bloom (pink focus)

my stylish friend Roxanne (yellow tones focus)

I love red Sharpies (red tones focus)

my friend Sophie has a big heart, it show right? (red focus)

feeling blue? (blue focus)

Orange base found at the beach (orange focus)

Happy Hump Day!!!

Made it back...

We are home, made it back after yesterday being an exhausting day that was supposed to start with us getting on the 8:20 flight to make it just in time for work.

Well, that didn't work out the way we expected... When we woke it was windy and rainy so all the flights were delayed and because we were only coming back to Grand Cayman and not connecting with another international flight the airline contacted us to give up our seat to those that did have a connecting flight.

So we did as they said we will be scheduled for the 12:30 flight, well that turned out to be the 3:30pm!!! Made it home by around 5pm... Our dogs were so happy and so were we (specially because they flight was not very bumpy!)

Now it's Tuesday and we have some stationary cold front on top of our islands, so lots of rain and very cloudy...

So, here are some other pictures that I took this weekend, have a great day!!!

everybody was thirsty this weekend!

beach at point of sands

finally our plane arrived...

Just Married...

Well, it's Monday and yesterday the wedding was fantastic, the couple looked amazing and the setting was just breathtaking...

Jason ready and waiting for his wife to be...

Vick, her dad, bridesmaids and Abbey the beautiful flower girl

Just picture; sandy white beach, with little Owen Island in the background, sunny and hot but with very dramatic rain clouds all over on the horizon.

Love is in the air...

"I pronounce you Husband & Wife"

Mr. & Mrs. Belport

Just Married...

After the ceremony even though it rained pretty hard after about an hour it cleared up very nicely and then it was very cool...

best looking couple at the party!

reception time

fireworks to celebrate!

Now we should be heading back to reality and get on the 8:20 flight, but then this morning we woke up and to our surprise it is all cloudy and rainy so now the flight is delayed for at least an hour.

So this is why I say this is the true Sister Islands experience because these islands are connected to Grand Cayman through twin otter planes (small 16-20 passenger planes) so just a little change on the weather and the wind can really affect the planes.

Now we are stuck and while writing this I got a call from the airline asking us if we have any connecting flight and since we live in Grand Cayman and we are not connecting, they asked us to give up our seats to people that are connecting... So maybe by 12 o'clock we should be heading back to, hopefully the weather will improve by then, cause I don't like flying those little planes with lots of wind and bad weather...

Have a great week!!!!

Better Together

Today is my friends Jason & Vicki's wedding. I am so happy and excited to be here to enjoy and share this very important day with them and it also brings me back some very fond memories of how special our day was just a few month back in May....

Weddings are just such joyful occasions, not only you get to celebrate the beginning of a wonderful new life together but also to celebrate all the good times that help those two people get to where they are in order to commit and make their life even better together and hopefully forever!

I have to admit that I love being married, having somebody to share life with in a very special way, although I also believe that you really not need to be married to have a commitment, I believe it gives life a different meaning when you have an "official" better half.

Well, the wedding should be starting in about an hour and half, so now I'm going to take a little nap now and then get ready.... I will post more pictures later on this week.

Have a great Sunday!!!
Vicki and Jay, still single but soon to be married, congrats guys!!!

Little Cayman...

here we come!
This evening we are off to Little Cayman for a few days, on Sunday afternoon we are attending the wedding of Jason & Vicki some good friends I used to work with in Cayman Brac. It's going to be so much fun... Got my camera ready, my meds (yeap, unfortunately I'm taking some antibiotics for this horrible cough) and my swimsuit. I might not be posting much cause I don't plan to spend much time on the computer.

We are definitely going to Point of Sands, my favorite place in Little...

So, I wish everybody a wonderful weekend full of joy and excitement. See you later!!!

Wednesday Game Post

Yesterday I got a sick note from the doctor to stay in, get some rest and try to finally get rid of this cold and cough for got. By taking some of the medication she sent me I think my fever is down and my cough situation is improving.

So, I was home yesterday, sleeping, watching t.v. and at times playing on the computer. And that's when I decided to play Bejeweled Blitz, a game on facebook that is quite good but addictive as well.

The whole point of the game is to match 3 or more of the same jewels and create chains that will destroy, the more you match together, the best points you get.

Well, yesterday after playing for a while I got THE BEST score for me so far, I was so impressed with it that I must share it with you all... ck it out:See what it says on it?287,150 points, One of the world's best scores, wooo-hooo!

Happy Hump Day!

45 Lessons and 5 to grow on...

I received the following from a friend of mine, it's from a columnist from a Cleveland newspaper online... Even though it's kind of long, it would be worth it if you have the time to read it, enjoy!!!

Regina Brett's 45 life lessons and 5 to grow on

To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me.

It is the most-requested column I've ever written. My odometer rolls over to 50 this week, so here's an update:

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Life is too short for long pity parties. Get busy living, or get busy dying.

17. You can get through anything if you stay put in today.

18. A writer writes. If you want to be a writer, write.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Overprepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: "In five years, will this matter?"

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

35. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

36. Growing old beats the alternative - dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood. Make it memorable.

38. Read the Psalms. They cover every human emotion.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

41. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

42. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

43. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

44. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

45. The best is yet to come.

46. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

47. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

48. If you don't ask, you don't get.

49. Yield.

50. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

What a joke...

So, last Friday, I got up, got some coffee, walked around the house for a little bit and then when I turn on my computer to post on my blog I was taken aback by the news of President Obama winning the Nobel Peace price, say whaaaat?

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I have anything against the American President, or that I know a lot about Nobel Prizes and I probably know even less about politics (as politics make my top 5 most hated things). But, why did he win this price? According to some articles I've read on the internet is due to "his efforts to strength diplomacy". Well, isn't that supposed to be part of his job description as a president???

As I mentioned before I really don't know much about the Nobel Price and what are the requirements to be nominated, but I also read on the internet that Mr. Obama was only a president for 2 weeks when the deadline nominations for the prizes closed, so how come they knew already back then that he deserved this price???

I just really hope this is going to be something positive towards his government and that in the years he has left as president would reflect and prove us that he deserved this prize more than so many other that are really working towards Peace in our planet...

Otherwise I just ask one thing: Where is Kanye West when we really need him????

LOL! I just think that when this joke is about to die, something else comes up and resurrects it again....
