Once in a Blue Moon...

it's New Year's Eve as well!!!

For those that have kind of lost track of the date and time, I have added a little countdown clock that would tell you when the new year is going to be here... Well but that's really only if you are on the Cayman Islands or the exact same time zone as we are, so guess it's really not that useful after all, LOL!

So yes, like I just mentioned today besides being New Year's eve we also have another very cool event which is a Blue Moon.

In case you've never hear of this or have but just don't know why it's call that; it's not really about the color, basically people call it like that when we get two full moons on the same month, so for us here at the western hemisphere we had a full one on Dec. 2nd so today's our second of the month, making it the Blue Moon, but in the case of the eastern hemisphere and because of the time difference their two full moons will be in January, kind of cool, uh?

So to commemorate this wonderful and kinda unique event I would like to share this video of my favorite version of Blue Moon (Song for Elvis) from the Cowboy Junkies, I love this version because besides being very romantic it also has a little sad feeling to it that makes me want to be hug or hug somebody...

So all I have left to say for the rest of the year is Have a wonderful 2010 filled with peace, love, health, happiness and harmony. Make the best out of the whole year, everyday, be grateful for every single thing that you have, your experiences and relations...

Besides that, thanks for taking a little time of your life to share this journey with me by visiting and commenting on my blog, keep in touch and hope to see all in 2010!!!

Cayman Wildlife (Part 1)

My husband's got some visitors on the island, in fact it's a girl (Carol) that he meet through his blog a few years ago and they developed a friendship just by reading each others blogs and comments.

So this Sunday while he went diving with some friends (I just didn't feel like going with them), I took Carol and her family members that came with her to the Boatswain's Beach a.k.a Cayman's Turtle Farm.

At the park they have Turtles (of course) of all sorts of sizes, from little, medium to huge. They have lots of iguanas walking around, a predator tank with some nurse sharks, reef sharks, bar jacks and barracudas. And they also an aviary with the national bird (the Cayman Parrot) as well as other very cool birds. Here are some of the shots I took that day.

birds and turtles

We had a great time and took many pictures so I will post some more tomorrow.

So to all of my blog friends out there, here's a one in a lifetime offer: if you ever come down to visit me, I will make sure to take you to this cool park, whatdaya' think???

Have a great day!!!

Are we there yet?

Yes, Christmas has come and gone, it's just another day and whatever you got or you didn't really doesn't change your life much (I think).

I guess they reason I don't get much into the Christmas Spirit anymore is because to me it's not so much about the presents but about spending time with family and people you love.

In my case nowadays I pretty much only spend time with my husband who I love dearly, but as we live together with our 2 dogs, spending time with him at Christmas it's just like any other day, and don't get me wrong I love it but it's just another date to me.

Also it's not like I don't have any friends here, but I really don't have very close ones but back home... So to me Christmas doesn't mean the same as when I was growing up... Still we had nice time.

Now it's back to work and back to reality, until in a few days we start the countdown to 2010!

Another day, another post...

Today I'm thinking about the many, many blog posts out there in cyberspace about Christmas, so that made me think about NOT wanting to write about it, but instead because the Holidays are supposed to bring out the best in you, I started thinking about pretty pictures of things I don't like, and that's what today's post is about.

I don't like rats
(this one is adorable...)

I hate the taste of cherries
(but I find it could be a pretty sexy looking fruit)

rollercoasters
(definitely not for me, I have enough with life as it is)

 driving in the snow
(been there, done that, don't like it, scenery is nice,
but that is if you are at all able to relax and enjoy it!)

 body building
(not my thing, but this guys are doing a good job looking buff)

tornadoes
(like 'em but not in real life)

I don't like animal suffering
(this picture gives me hope that thanks to humans the Koala will get better)

I don't like anything slimy like a snail
(but specially I DON'T like it when blogger uploads your pictures the wrong way, LOL!!)

Have a great day and of course Merry Christmas!!!

Christmas Movie Post

Even though I don't particularly find Christmas movies interesting, this year I decided that the right time for such kind of flicks is not other that the month of December, and that's exactly what I've tried doing this month.

So far here are the one's I've watched, one that was just OK:

One that just plain SUCKED!

One that I've always liked as a fun romantic comedy and now that I watched again, realized this could be consider a Christmas movie, so now I highly recommend it for any season:

A must see classic:

And last, but not least my favorite Christmas movie (for a few years now) and that I always love to watch on Christmas day is:

And those are my holiday movies of the year, if you are lacking Holiday spirit (like me) watching those and some eggnog might just do the trick, LOL.

Happy Holidays!!!

Tree Tuesday

Well, today is the last Tuesday before Christmas, so this means it's the last tree blog. So today I'm featuring our one and only little Christmas tree at home.

Our tree is one of those fiber option ones that change color and rotate at the same time, so it's very difficult to take a good picture of it, still I gave it a try!

Happy Tuesday!!!

R.I.P

Yesterday afternoon I read the sad news about the young actress Brittany Murphy passing of a cardiac arrest, not only she was beautiful, talented and young lady (she was my age, 32), but also a daughter, sister, wife and friend, to somebody that will miss her dearly.

Regardless of the reason why she passed away, my mother always says, "it only takes to be alive in order to die". No matter your age, gender, skin color, social status or anything else. We are put into this world to live life to the fullest and then to die, as dying is the ultimate answer to everything, the passing to a better place, a place where everything that you can't come to terms with in life, will bring that to your soul.

So while a young Hollywood actress full of hopes, dreams, projects, success and a whole life ahead, suddenly dies, on the other side, yesterday, I came to find out that my grandmother (which is around 91 yrs old and has been sick for a couple of years after having a stroke), is very delicate now and some of my family member have decided to put her in a hospital for somebody to take "better" care of her?

Why is it us humans are so attached to this life? (which in many cases, like my grandmother's state, don't think is really worth staying around for very long).... No matter how much we are attached to our life, we are all going to die and our best hope should be for a sudden natural death and not a tragic accident or a crime.

So while a young soul goes off, an old, wise and beautiful soul is still around, after having had a wonderful long life as a daughter, sister, mother, wife, friend and specially grandmother. On this Christmas time I reflect in both life's and pray for them and many more that need to find peace during life and when closer to God.

Have a great week!

Some bunny loves ya!

Stories like the one I received by email today is one of the things that really makes my heart happy and reminds me that love is all around us.

I'm sure you have heard of the famous Bamby (the deer) and his friend Thumper (the bunny)? Well their story goes beyond a Disney movie and the following pictures taking by a German photographer (Tanja Askani) proves it. If you like to read the whole story click here.

Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Holiday Spirit

If you are anything like me this holiday season, then you are probably lacking some Christmas Spirit.

For some reason I've never really being much into Christmas songs and looks like for a few weeks now, every radio station on the island is playing a Christmas song every other song on their regular programming, so that ain't helping me much either.

Well, I might have found a solution to my problem (and maybe yours, if you are not into Christmas song either). Here are some new and improved Holiday Lyrics to help all of us get into the Christmas Spirit.

When walking to a Christmas party you could sing:

"It's the most wonderful time to drink beer..."

When going for some last minute holiday shopping just sing:

Rushing to the mall
on a late December day,
through the stores we go
charging all the way

ching... ching... ching

Bell$ on registers Ring
making checkbook$ light
Oh, what fun it is to buy up
everything in $ight!

Ching... Ching... Ching

Jingle Bell$ Jingle Bell$
the kids all yell and scream
to us it sound like anarchy
but to them is harmony, hey!

And what about this song for the family party;

Drinking around the Christmas Tree
at the Christmas Party rush
faces are hung o'er the balcony
everybody is a lush

Drinking around the Christmas Tree
let the Christmas drunkards through
later we'll do some vomiting
and our arms will hung the loo

You will get an upset stomach feeling, when you taste
Vodka through your nose, oh golly,
Deck the halls with boughs of jolly!!!

Hope you liked the new versions!

Wednesday movie post

It's Wednesday again so in my blogs it means it's movie post day.

Today's movie is one I rented a couple of weeks ago and to be honest the 2 main reasons why I rented this movie were:

Reason #1: the name. This movie is called "The Boat that Rocked" a.k.a "Pirate Radio", and with this name I was attracted immediately as my husband is a broadcasting/radio engineer and he's all into that radio/shortwave/music stuff... Me, I'm mostly into music although here on the island the radio stations are pretty lame so I don't really listen to any very long.

Reason #2: It's based in real facts plus it's a comedy, so to me that's kind of a double whammy, as movies that are based on true facts (which are my favorite kind) are usually dramas.

Reason #3: Yeap, there was really a third reason and it's Phillip Seymour Hoffman, he is not only a great actor but he's also got a "Je ne sais quoi" that I "heart"!!!

Now to the review. This movie has two names (dunno why?), I think is cause it was released in the UK with one name, then re edited with a new name, not sure if they added more material or took off some.

Well, basically the movie set in the 1960's when radio stations in the UK only used to play certain kind of music and not rock and roll was kind of banned, so this group of DJ's decided to leave the country in a cargo ship and start a pirate broadcasting from there, so they were not technically in UK territory but on international waters, where they could play rock and roll.

So it's the story of this bunch of crazy dj's back in the 60's where they was a lot of free love, drugs, buzz and of course rock and roll, having the time of their lives.

Anyway, it's a pretty entertaining movie, either if you are into sex, drugs, rock and roll and even some British humor I am sure you'll have a good time.

I specially liked with music and maybe even the soundtrack will be worth to check out (but that's if you are into rock and roll and 60's music only), they play stuff like from: The Who, The Kinks, Beach Boys, Jimi Hendrix and even my favorite Cat Stevens song (Father and Son).

So in review, I really liked this movie and I give it:

Happy Hump Day!!!

Tree Tuesday

Today's tree is the one we have at work, upstairs at the gallery. We have another one downstairs but it's small and have no lights, only souvenir ornaments that we sell to tourist for $6US, want one??? LOL

There are 5 cruise ships in port today, so it should be a pretty busy day, have a great one!

Hello Monday!

I didn't not expect to see you so soon... In fact everything seems blurry today and that's cause you arrived too soon!

It's the beginning of another work week and after a laid back weekend I should be feeling fresh and ready to take over the world.

But oh nooo!, in my case, lately I feel so tired that my concentration span is almost none existent, I finally started back on my exercise routine so hopefully that is going to start giving more me energy any time soon...

I guess another reason for my tiredness is because I know the holidays are coming up, and even though I talked it over with my husband a few weeks ago, and we both decided that this year we were not going to give each other any gifts, I already bought him something and I'm already thinking about other stuff to get him.

He currently has a Treo 650 that just "kicked the bucket", so I got him the same exact phone as he has right now but new. You might ask, why the same phone (that's not fun)? Well, the reason I got him the same one, is because he currently has a lot of applications and games that he uses every day on his old phone, so he needs another that he could still use all those same applications, so it's got to be the same one.

Besides this phone I got him, I'm also starting to get all sorts of idea of stuff to get him, but not sure if I should do since we already decided to not give each other anything, what should I do????

Oh well, back to being Monday, it sucks doesn't it. LOL... Oh well, have a great week anyway!

Random weekend shots

Today I'm not doing much, enjoying being at home and just lounge around, catch some rays in the back deck and enjoy the nice holiday breeze.

Besides that I decided to bake some Banana Nut Cupcakes a.k.a Muffins (as other people like to call them). Here's the final result...

Yesterday we were going to store and as we were pulling out in the car we notice a very unique visitor in our yard, here it is, I call it "Henry" the Heron.

Also, today I managed to put a bow on my dog Sheba, one that she can actually tolerate, as I was getting her and Ditto ready for our Christmas Picture...

she's ready for the pawtee!
