Sunny Saturday

Well, last night was 1/2 mission accomplished, and the reason why is only 1/2 is because I did managed to get some sleep but I haven't been able to get rid of my cough 100%. I do have to say that the natural remedy Hyung (my Korean friend) gave me works pretty good, but does not cure the cough 100%.

Something else I tried last night right before going to be was: carrot juice with hot water and honey, that works pretty good for relaxing you and taking the itching off your throat, so that's another natural remedy I recommend for when fighting that annoying cough while trying to get to sleep.

So, it's Saturday and I'm really hoping I get some well deserve rest and manage to get rid of this annoying sickness that's being around me way too long.

This afternoon we are planning to go to the opening of a new nursery and I expect to find some good deals as we need more stuff for our garden, but even if we don't buy anything it makes me excited to go cause I LOVE PLANTS and I love going to nurseries, I will probably take some pictures too, although I have not being using my Nikon lately cause I left my charger in CR last month. My mother put it on the mail about a month ago and I'm still waiting for it....

Anyway, here are some pictures of some flowers I bought last weekend, I think they are so beautiful and simple, they are for full sun and require almost no attention at all... Have a great weekend!

Dis and Dat

Yesterday morning I took my car in for the 2009-2010 inspection and I'm happy because it passed, so far in the 3 yrs that I've owned this car it's always being incredibly reliable, never being to the shop and every single year I take for inspection it goes in without a problem, my car is 1996 Mitsubishi Pajero (right side driver, as we drive on the left in the Cayman Island). This is what I drive now:I know I have a good car and all... but that doesn't I'm not already dreaming of a new one, for a while I was really considering a Honda CRV but lately I have fallen madly in love with the Jeep Liberty. Ooooh, it's such a nice car, bigger than mine and specially with 5 doors instead of 3 like the one I own right now... So, now I'm going to focus my law of attraction in order to change my car in the future for a Liberty... This is what I will be driving soon:


Besides my new car plans, I've been feeling pretty bad lately, I have this horrible cold that started on Sunday evening with a soar throat and then became a bad cold. So far every night I have had fever and lately a terrible cough that doesn't give a chance to get a good night sleep.

Last night I slept on the couch cause it made me feel bad that I was coughing so bad right next to my husband and not even he was able to get any sleep... I was sweating all night and I'm sure I had a fever but never got around to get up and look for the thermometer.

So tonight I'm going to give a try to a natural remedy that a Korean friend of mine recommended me, I have to soak grated radish in honey for an hour and then take 3 tablespoons for that, he swears it's a fantastic remedy, we shall see tonight...

October Events

It is October already and even though I don't really have a busy social life at all, for some reason this month is filled with 3 big events.

Event #1: On the weekend of Oct. 18th we are going to my friends Vicki and Jason's wedding in Little Cayman (one of the sister islands). For this one, we are going from Friday afternoon and coming back on Monday morning and going to work straight from the airport.

I'm really looking forward to this event as I'm going to see a lot of my friends that I used to work with, plus just the fact of going away for the weekend is going to feel like a little vacation.

So, for this joyful occasion I made up my mind and decided not to buy a new dress and wear one that I already own. It was really my plan to buy a new one but then I found out that I have another 2 events after this one...

Event #2: My boss, his name is Guy Harvey (artist, conservationist, fisherman, marine biologist, etc) is going to be highly honored by being inducted in the IGFA (International Game Fish Association)'s Hall of Fame. For this we are going to a big event dinner at the IGFA building in Miami, FL on Oct. 27th. It should be very fun and also nice because there are only 5 people inducted every year and this year, besides my boss there is a fellow Costarican being inducted, so I am ruling for both of them.

In the case of the dress code for this particular event, according to my boss I should wear a casual cocktail dress. So, yesterday after work I stopped a local store and found a nice, cute, not so dressy dress. It looks like this:

So, what do you guys think??? You like it, I guess like any other dress it looks better once you have it one than like this on a manequin, that's why I'll try to put it one and take a picture for visual purposes.

And finally...

Event #3: It's a fundraiser dinner for the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation (yes, my boss has his own foundation to preserve the oceans) and for that one, I have no clue what I'm going to wear.

Unfortunately for me a live on an island that the options for clothing as many other items are quite limited. So I guess I will have to look around some more and hopefully I will be able to find something soon.

Wednesday Movie Post

Lately I haven't really watch any movies worth posting about.

Then the other day while watching the special features on one of the many animated movies that we own, I found some pretty cool videos of the songs featured on many of those movies (made by Dreamworks).

So, in today's post instead of writing about an specific movie I decided to share some of these videos.

Redefining "Joe Cool"

Last week our dog Sheba walked right by a little side table we have next to the couch and by mistake picked up my husband sunglasses, when we realized she was walking with the glasses on her neck this gave us a wonderful opportunity for a "kodak" moment.

The pictures came out so good that it got me thinking that Snoopy has nothing on how cool she looks, right? LOL

Full Moon Weekend

On Saturday we went to a Full Moon Party at the Public beach. After the party on our way home we stopped at another part of the beach that was more private so we could night swim, we had my camera so we took some pretty cool shots...

Then yesterday was our friend Ania's birthday (she is my coworkers wife) so we got invited to the hang out with a bunch of people (including my boss and his wife) at Rum Point which is one of the most beautiful parts of the island. Basically the beach is so shallow that on Sundays most people that own a boat drive there to just hang out, eat, drink and chat on the water... So there were tons of people and even a lot of dogs... We had a great time!

Unfortunately after a great weekend another work week starts, plus this morning I woke up with a massive throat infection that I need to pay close attention to as this is going to be a pretty busy week and I can't afford to get worst... So I'm already taking more vitamins that normal and hope that it won't get out of control.... Have a great week!

All things Pink

Well we are finally in October and it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.



So today, my post is about all things pink, and with this I would like to honor; first of all my Mom as a breast cancer survivor along with many other women (even some men) that have being through this horrible disease, fight it and lived to tell the story.

But also I would like to honor those that have not being as bless as the survivors as well as those that are going through it as I write this...Hope all women reading this DO NOT take their health for granted and the best way to move forward against Breast Cancer is awareness and early detection. I am going to be wearing a pink ribbon pin every day of the month, to remember and honor this important cause!

A little bird told me...

actually, I haven't heard anything from a bird but just their wonderful songs.

But lately it looks like my life is filled with this beautiful animals and I'm not sure if this has any meaning or not.


Like I said in one of my previous post about Woody (the woodpecker) I had a pretty close (the closer so far) encounter with him and I was able to capture the moment with my camera.

This morning I was having breakfast and coffee with my husband in the back terrace and all of a sudden he said "did you see that red bird?". So we got up and we were able to spot it, a beautiful cardinal-looking bird (but a cardinal in the Caribbean, naaaah!). I manage to go get my camera and took some pictures of it, unfortunately he was quite far away and even with my zoom lens I was not able to capture a very clear picture of it. Then when I got to work I manage to find the species on the internet and it is a Summer Tanager, here it is:


Finally when I came to work today as soon as I was walking to my desk I realized that a little bird had come through the doors and was flying around like a maniac trying the find his way out, (this is not the first time that this has happened). As before I was able to grab him and set him free, unfortunately this one little one probable hit his head in one of the fans cause he was bleeding. I hope he survives!

Yesterday I was very honored to received my 3rd award from an awesome fellow blogger, Maggie at Moonstruck.

Still life with the Woodpecker

Today's post is not about Tom Robbin's book, but a series of pictures I've taken in the past few days of Woody, our resident woodpecker that lives in our back yard and it's interacting with used to us.

On a previous post "3rd time is the charm" I managed to take a picture of him for the first time when he comes and to eat bugs out of our roof gutters. Well this time I took some good shots of him on the Mahogany tree...

Now, yesterday I had a very "close encounter" with him in our back deck. I was coming out of the shower and I heard him signing but closer that ever before, so I grabbed my camera and walk into the back deck trying to find him, I kept hearing him but couldn't see him, until I looked down and I spot his little head just poking up and staring at me... I really think he was curious and maybe even likes his picture taken, LOL!


On another note... I am keeping the new image for my blog as I received good reviews and nice comments. I also just read that I have an award from Maggie waiting for me at her blog, but I haven't had time to read about yet, so I will post about that soon, so for now, Thank You Maggie!!!

Schizofrenic Saturday...

The weekend is flying by so fast that it's Sunday already.

Yesterday was a pretty bizarre day, in the morning got a text from my boss only saying;

"I just got one question: what did I ever do to u?"...

So to me, this is a joke! I mean, if you have a problem with somebody and you want to confront this person, you have to do it either in person or over the phone, cause what's the point of trying to confront somebody via text message, uh? So I obviously ignored the text and went on with my day... But this made me think that there was already something going on at work.

After some shopping we ended up having lunch at a new Tex Mex Restaurant (and the only one on the island, can u believe it, on an island with more than 30k people!). It was good, and I had a very large Margarita... which kind of got me through the rest of the day...

The reason to say the Margarita got me through the rest of the day is because when we were waiting for our meal, the assistant manager at work "J" called me to tell me that in fact it was the end of our manager at work, that she got fired that very morning, which probably explains the reason I got that text...

So, later on in the evening I got another text, this one explains the fact that not only she is bipolar, she has this paranoiac personality, and I'm sure what she meant is that the assistant manager which she refers to as "my friend" is the one that calls me that. I'm sure the reason why she is saying this is because she saw us talking on Friday (about random stuff) but I'm sure in her head it was all a conspiracy meeting against her... so her text this time said:

"I hope you are happy to know what your friend calls u, a short, fat, b*#%h. I am".

Nice, ah? Very classy of her, and probably the result of a very depressed and drunk afternoon. Oh boy I tell you, I've been working with this woman for almost 3 years now and I always knew her last days at work were not going to be pretty, and even though I tried to stay away from this whole situation, I knew she always had this time about me and it's call envy.

So, obviously ignored that other text and when I see her, if I ever get to see her again, and I probably will, cause she refused to sign the letter that was giving to her yesterday, and left saying she was going to talk to her lawyer (yeah like she can even afford one!).

Anyway, like I say before, I really don't wish her any harm and I'm sure that she will be a lot happier somewhere else if she hates us all that much (specially me!).

On another better note, it's Sunday so now I'm off to the beach... will post some pics tomorrow!

32 yrs ago...

On a day like today, but in the year 1977, my birth mother Gilda passed away of an aneurysm.

She was 23 yrs old and I was only 6 months, so unfortunately I don't remember my time with her.

This last time I was back in Costa Rica I went to see my grandmother (Gilda's Mother) and got a hold of some old pictures that she still had. My grandma used to always have tons and tons of pictures, but I guess with her being sick and having lots of different nurses and helpers the pictures as well as a lot of her stuff has gone missing, I was glad to be able to get some of my mom's pictures as well as some from when I was a little girl.

I can't really say I miss her because as I say before I really don't remember her, plus like I mention in a previous post (my two moms), after she passed away God and my dad gave me the opportunity to have another wonderful mother that has being more than I can ever imagine in my life.

But I know that mom Gilda is always looking out for me and although she was very young when God called her to his side, and we did not get to spend much time together, she is always in my heart and I live each day thinking of the best way to carry her memory and legacy of love!
